Painting an Ensō
|
Born out of the Zen arts, ensō, or Zen circles, are an opportunity to embody the unseen. Monica uses ink, iridescent pigment, and other materials to capture the ineffability of time in moment-to-moment experience. The brush, ink, and paper become a direct extension of the body, mind, and the universe. Each of the paintings below is an original, signed, dated, and embossed with a name stamp. Please reach out for additional images of the work shown, pricing, or if you are local to the Central Vermont area and would enjoy a studio visit. Visit the Legacy Gallery for images of work created before 2024, and the Holiday Art Show page to discover work currently on display. A few words about the new work...
As always, this practice is a homecoming during difficult times, a celebration of connection, and everything in between. As I delve deeper into the practice, changes in my life are reflected in the evolution of the images. No longer single-brushstroke paintings, many are multilayered, circles within circles. This pays homage to the teachers, traditions, and wisdom that guide me and acknowledges that this practice would not exist without them.
