Asking difficult questions about something you think you know well is a humbling and clarifying practice, even though it may sound cynical. This presentation is about Monica's ensō painting practice as an extension of meditation and working with unconscious predilections and how that helped her navigate a few years of significant loss, including her pandemic experience , the death of someone beloved during that time, and a traumatic brain injury. This talk isn’t about Buddhism; it’s about humanity. Understanding consciousness through Buddhist practice and theory made that inquiry accessible. That said, Buddhism doesn’t own consciousness. Consciousness is something that goes beyond comprehension and any particular faith system. During these times of great unrest, the investigation of what consciousness is and why it might be important as a way to move beyond hangups and inner conflict by offering a sense of interconnection.
